FRANKLIN -- Tooper Brent E. Hill, 26, remains hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on I-75.
The vehicle that hit the trooper, a 1996 Buick Riviera, was driven by Andrew T. Combs, 22, of Vandalia. The OSHP says Combs lost control of his vehicle, went off the left side of the road, sideswiped the patrol car and struck Hill and the vehicle that was involved in the first crash. There were no other passengers in Combs' vehicle and no other injuries were reported.
The OSHP said Hill is a newly commissioned trooper working out of the Lebanon post.
Combs reportedly remained at the scene and provided a statement to investigators. He was cooperative with the investigation and was released pending further investigation.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

FRANKLIN -- An Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper suffers serious head trauma after being hit by another car laste Wednesday while investigating a crash.
Trooper Brent Hill, 26, is listed in critical condition. He was investigating another crash with Trooper Mike Steele, 48 when he was struck by an oncoming car. They are both based out of the Lebanon post.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-75 North in the Franklin area. Two troopers were investigating a one-car crash. They suspected the driver of that car was drinking. One of the troopers got out of the cruiser and was hit by a car traveling Northbound. That car also hit the cruiser and car police were originally investigating.
Police say the road was partially covered with snow at the time. They are not ruling out weather as a possible cause for the crash.
The trooper was taken to Atrium Medical Center. He has since been taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he is in critical condition. The trooper just graduated from the academy on February 8th. He was still in training.
Right now, police are questioning the driver of the car that hit the trooper. They say he is not under arrest at this time.
