DAYTON--The family of 13 year old Briona Rodgers is in mourning.
"I never saw her down in the dumps. She never had a frown. She was always happy."
Rodger's aunt, Tonya Horton said. "I love her. I'm going to miss her. That's my baby." She said.
The 8th grader was shot and killed Sunday afternoon on Home Avenue.
Horton lives close by and heard the gunshots. "I got up and looked outside, and I saw the guy in broad daylight with a gun in hand."
Briona's cousin, Alonta Culpepper was also shot and is in critical condition at the hospital.
"We are just hoping she pulls through. She was shot in the back and in the head." Horton said.
Police are looking for the suspected gunman, 39-yr-old Dameon Wesley. Wesley, was recently released from prison after serving nearly 20 years for murder.
Horton said Wesley is Briona's mother's ex-boyfriend. Horton believes the two got into a fight before the shooting.
"She told him she didn't want to be with him anymore, didn't want a relationship. He let it be known, if I can't be with you, then I'm just going to end all your lives, everybody that's around." Horton said.
Horton's family is staying strong in prayer. "I just hope police find him. They need to. This is shocking."
