DAYTON -- Scherrie McLin, the former owner of McLin Funeral Home has turned herself in this afternoon to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office and has appeared in court.
McLin was indicted last week on several charges including grand theft, corruption, tampering with records, forgery and violation of preneeds contracts. Prosecutors said McLin accepted about $200,000 in preneeds contracts for funerals. But never followed through after those clients died.
The judge has set McLin's bond at $250,000.
The charges are not connected to an investigation into human remains found at a home McLin owned. The cremated remains of 56 people were found September 18 in a vacant home at 2121 Philadelphia Drive.
Property records show McLin owns the property, which was in foreclosure at the time. A contractor preparing the property for sale found the remains.
McLin's defense attorney told our news crew that McLin is innocent of these charges.
We will have the complete story from today's hearing tonight at 6 on ABC 22 and at 6:30 on FOX 45.
