DAYTON -- A press release made available Wednesday by the University of Dayton and the First Four Local Organizing Committee said the NCAA is "continuing to consider a long-term proposal from the University of Dayton to remain the host of the First Four for an extended period of time."

"With that proposal under consideration, the NCAA requested that the community put any public festivals in Dayton for 2013 on hold," the release reads. "Significant transition of staff members who would typically work with the local committee to plan community celebrations has furthered the need to put this event on hiatus until representatives from the University of Dayton, the local organizing committee and the NCAA meet during the summer to develop a foundation for all future community events."

Organizers said they still are planning a week of events focused on the NCAA basketball games scheduled for March 17-24 in Dayton, "which provides the community an opportunity to showcase itself to a national audience in addition to the tens of thousands of college basketball fans traveling to Dayton from across the country."

Several public events are planned, including the second annual First 4 4-Miler run, a basketball centric event and the 10 tournament games at UD arena over four days. For more information on those events, visit wwww.DaytonHoopla.com or email mfarrell@daytonhoopla.com.
