UPDATE--The boil advisory issued for parts of the Xenia has now been lifted.
Officials issued the advisory yesterday while they tested the water to make sure it met drinking standards.
XENIA -- The City of Xenia on Friday issued a boil water advisory for some customers after a water main break about 7 a.m. As a precaution, the city has issued the boil order for customers in the areas identified below. Customers who reside in the affected area are advised to boil their tap water before drinking. This precautionary boil advisory will remain in effect until 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 16.
Streets included in boil order area are:
Eagles Way
Country Club Dr.
Highlander Dr.
Highlander North
Eastland Ct.
Laddie Ct.
Echo Ct.
Mound Ct.
Ashbrook Ct.
Brooke Ln.
Independence Dr.
Liberty Ct.
Hancock Ct.
Constitution Dr.
Minuteman Ct.
Kinsey Rd. East of Highlander
Shirley Dr.
Crestline Dr.
Silver Dr.
Stevenson Rd.
Apollo Dr.
The water main break has been isolated and the system has been repressurized with service restored to Eagles Way Dr., Summer Brooke Subdivision, Kinsey Meadows Subdivision, parts of Kinsey Rd., Silvers Dr. and Shirley Dr. area. When a water main is depressurized, the Ohio EPA advises a water utility to issue a boil advisory.
All water used for drinking, cooking and oral hygiene should be brought to a full boil for a minimum of one minute. It is not necessary to boil water for other uses.
The City of Xenia issues boil advisories as a precaution with a customerâs best interests in mind. Itâs possible, but unlikely, that bacteria could enter the water system when pressure in the line drops below 20 PSI. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water.
While the boil advisory is in effect, the City of Xenia also recommends that customers:
⢠throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water;
⢠keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;
⢠do not swallow water while you are showering or bathing;
⢠provide pets with boiled water after cooling;
⢠do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms;
⢠use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.
Customers who have questions may call the City of Xenia Public Service Center at 937-376-7265.
