MIAMI COUNTY --  Larry Becker has been retired for 30 years but has been having problems with his teeth for the last 15.

"I can't even talk do you see my mouth," he said as he pulled out his teeth.

He recently went on Medicare & Medicaid to help him pay for the dental work he needs.

"I used to have to pay for everything I did," he added.

That's one option for people without dental insurance. And Saturday, Excellence in Dentistry, 1523 N. Market St. Troy, will provide another. Get there between 6:00 a.m. and  noon, and their dentists will see as many patients, 16 years or older, as they possibly can.

"Complete a little bit of paperwork but we don't ask any questions about your income or any other situation. We will provide a service for a cleaning and extraction or filling," said Nicole McFadden of Excellence in Dentistry.

Excellence in Dentistry expects about 100 people tomorrow, and all in all, the day will cost them about $20,000.

"Only about 30 percent of our patients have dental insurance," said mcFadden. "A lot of our insurance providers are putting limitations on what patient can receive and the out of pocket is becoming more more for patients."

If you don't have Medicare & Medicaid  and you are not able to go there Saturday, check and see if your county offers a dental clinic.

"There is definitely a deficit going on when it comes to dental insurance most employers don't even offer it," said Eryca Moton of Miami County Dental Clinic.

The Miami County Dental Clinic is a nonprofit that has been offering dental care for uninsured or under insured since 2008. They see about 2000 people every year and about 60 percent of them do not have dental insurance. Based on their income and family size they are able to use government grants to lower your payments.

"It's a huge deal people that don't have dental insurance often go longer without going to the dentist and causes their conditions to worsen and when they come in instead of getting preventative care there often getting extractions tooth loss end up in dentures," said Moton.

"I need help with my teeth I can't chew right down to here it hurts they have to grind some more," said Becker.

For the third of adults and more than half of the seniors in Miami County do not have dental insurance, (see Oral Health Surveillance System) there is one other option. It's something called care credit. It's like a credit card you can get for no interest for dental and medical care.
