Miami Township Deputy Chief Fired for Violating Code of Conduct

MIAMI TWP.--Miami Township's Deputy Police Chief John DiPietro has been fired and his termination is effective immediately.

The Miami Township Board of Trustees made the decision unanimously.

DiPietro was found guilty of several violations stemming from an incident where he hosed off a 17-year girl after she was pepper sprayed. The teen was accused of shoplifting.

According to reports, there were no other officers present when the suspect took off her clothes. DiPietro is also accused of taking a picture of the girl's tattoo on her lower back and sending it to a friend.

As DiPietro and his attorney walked into the government building Wednesday morning, they were hopeful a decision would not be made today.

"I would hope that the trustees from the township would take a good hard look at all the evidence that's been presented in this hearing and there's been quite a bit before they make a decision and that may take a little bit of time, I would hope that they would take the time," said Richard Lipowicz, DiPietro's attorney.

Trustees believed DiPietro violated the code of conduct.  They refused to comment after the hearing today.

And once the decision was made, his attorney says his client has a decision to make himself.

"It's possible that he may want to file an administrative appeal with Montgomery County Common Pleas Court to take other legal action," said Lipowicz.

DiPietro had been on administrative leave since October.

There were no criminal charges stemming from the incident.

He was with the department for 24 years.
