HUBER HEIGHTS--Some women in Huber Heights came to a gym ready to fight but these ladies weren't angry they were there to learn how to defend themselves.Sara Cho came to the class for her it's about being prepared just in case. "A lot of people think the only way you can fight is with a weapon."It's a free class offered to those from 8 to 80 so to speak...helping women learn the basic of self-defense.They start with basic moves like someone grabbing you and the woman fighting back trying to avoid a take down."I know I am getting older but I am still small and I can't hear if someone comes up behind me I need to be able to defend myself." Deaf since birth Anya Penner is not letting the disablity stop her from living a full life. The teen is taking the class to sharpen the defenses she does have in case she needs them. "I am pretty strong but if the person is bigger than me I need to know how to defend myself." Self defense instructor Aaron Jannetti says the key is always be aware of your surrounding. He says part of defending yourself is not being caught totally offguard. "Even just having a little bit of a general idea hey this is a possiblity is huge." Jannetti says most of his classes deal with teaching 3 or 4 concepts that can be used if you find yourself in different scenarios. "If we give you a basic idea or concept this is how we deal with strikes this is how we deal with grabs this is how we deal with grabs this is how we deal with the physiological thing that goes into self defense how in that stressful moment I have at least a jump off to deal with every situation."
