DAYTON -- The deadline for the first Montgomery County Drug Abuse Prevention Poster Contest is Friday, Jan. 30.
Sixth- through 12th-graders are eligible to compete. There are two divisions: one for sixth through eighth grade, another for ninth through 12th graders.
According to teh Montgomery County Drug-Free Coalition, posters must reflect the theme of drug abuse prevention and include the coalition logo. They also must include this year's slogan "Saving Our Community."
Posters must be received in the Coalition's offices at 345 W. Second St., Dayton (that's in the Sheriff's Headquarters) by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30. Winners will be notified by Saturday, Feb. 14.
A grand prize winner as well as one runner-up from each division will be selected. The grand prize winner will receive a $50 cash prize and a college scholarship of the winner's choice (subject to acceptance and enrollment) to either Sinclair Community College (9 credit hours), Wright State University ($2,000) or the University of Dayton ($5,000.)
The grand prize winner's artwork also will be reproduced on a folder to be distributed at various coalition events.
Runners-up will each receive a $25 cash prize.
