MIAMI VALLEY -- It has been a tragic week for firefighters responding to multiple deadly fires.
In December through February, half of all fires spark while families try to heat their home. 81% of home heating death are caused by space heaters. There are simple steps you can take to protect your family.
After a baby boy was caught in a deadly house fire firefighters are reminding families of the precautions you need to take when using heaters in your home.
Here are some heating safety tips from the National Fire Protection Association:
-They say when using a heater have a kid-free zone, by keeping children at least three feet away from open fires and heaters.
-Never use your oven to heat your home.
-Always use the right kind of fuel suggested by the manufacturer for fuel burning space heaters.
-When using your fireplace make sure to have a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room.
