DAYTON -- The police shooting of John Crawford, III Is sparking protests as far away as California.

Crawford was shot and killed by a police officer inside the Beavercreek Walmart while holding what turned out to be a pellet gun he found inside the store.

"It spoke to us all and a lot of people weren't bringing up Mr. Crawford. So we felt it was important to bring up his name,' an anonymous protester from Oakland, CA told ABC 22 via phone Tuesday.

About 50 protesters held a "die-in" outside the Walmart, laying in the parking lot.

While the majority of the protest happened outside the store, there was a quieter movement happening inside.

Organizers posted stickers on toy guns that said 'Warning: Persons of color picking up this object may be subject to serious injury or death at the hands of Walmart or police.'

We spoke to an organizer by phone Tuesday (January 20th, 2015) who wanted to remain anonymous due to the fact that Walmart is pursuing action against the people who placed stickers on their merchandise.

But protesters say the sticker -  whose picture is flying across social media like Twitter - is a necessary warning.

"That sounds like a courtesy to the Walmart shoppers of color," the protester explained. "A warning sign on these 'weapons' since they're called weapons by police officers since it does cause people to get killed. It needs to be mandatory that Walmart put these stickers on there.

"We still feel it today. We're out here in the Bay Area and we stand with you Ohio. We love you guys."

Oakland Police tell us they are investigating multiple protests on Sunday and could not give comment specifically on the stickers put on the Walmart merchandise.
