KETTERING -- Residents in a neighborhood near Stroop and David roads are concerned about their safety because of the icy state of their residential streets.

The city announced a winter weather plan, that stated they would address main thoroughfares first, before addressing secondary roads with plows and salt, but neighbors say it has been more than one week since the snow fell and there is still large patches of ice. They would like them addressed.

"Twice I've slid through that stop sign," said Larriwood Avenue resident Bryan Mullins about the large icy patch in front of his home, "Second time I knew there was ice and I did it the night before. I was still slowing down ahead of time but once you get to that smooth eyes you just don't stop you slide right out into traffic."

Mullins was concerned because his street is also a route for many school buses.

On nearby Lamont Avenue, other residents were concerned after a crash Wednesday night involving teenagers and a DP&L truck, they the people involved attribute to the icy street conditions.

"His car was mangled," said Dante Roe, "The fact that he came out alive is… We have no idea."

"You just want everybody to be safe and it makes it hard when the streets just aren't maintained," added Roe.

"This whole corner here was really a sheet of ice from curb to curb,"said Jamie Burt on Lovetta Avenue a few blocks over.

Burt said he had seen his fair share of almost crashes on his icy street over the past week.

"Because it takes so many days to come and plow, everything gets packed down so when it melts we get these big ice buildups," he said.

Residents say they knew their streets would not be first priority to city plows and salt trucks, but thought that more than one week later, more would have been done.

"The one thing they should be obviously hitting is stop signs... they should be cleared... you have to stop," said Mullins.

"We would be happy if there was plowing sooner so the snow doesn't get packed down," said Burt.

The City of Kettering reported they sent a salt truck to Lamont Avenue after the DP&L involved crash.

They also report sending salt trucks out into the neighborhoods on Monday after around of freezing rain, but say they did warn about having some difficult residential areas because they are conserving salt supplies.

If you have a concern about the safety of your street the city asks you give them a call.
