XENIA -- Join director Ken Kettering and the Xenia Christian High School Drama Department for "Bridge of Blood: Taking Christ to the Aucas" on Friday and Saturday, February 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. in the Xenia Christian auditorium.

This production is based upon the true story of Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, and three other courageous young missionaries who met their deaths in 1956 while trying to take the story of Christ to the unreached and very dangerous Auca Indian tribe in Ecuador.

"Bridge of Blood" was written by former Cedarville University professor David Robey.

“I have always been interested in the lives of missionary heroes,” said Robey, who describes the drama as “a historical and non-fictional story, told through the genre of reader’s theater.” It is based on Elisabeth Elliot’s books "Through Gates of Splendor" and "Shadow of the Almighty." The character of Elizabeth narrates the play and all the other characters’ monologues are taken directly from their own letters, diaries, and journals.

The play is performed in two acts, with the first act focusing on the background of the five missionaries, especially Jim Elliot and Nate Saint, and how each of them and their wives eventually moved to Ecuador. Toward the end of Act One, Saint discovers the “Aucas” from his plane. This leads the men to begin making plans for “Operation Auca.”

The Second Act describes the efforts of Operation Auca itself. The play focuses especially on the preparation of the men as they leave on their expedition to Auca territory. The play ends with Elizabeth describing the eventual redemption of the Auca tribe through ongoing missionary efforts.

Robey, who plans to attend the performance, said, “I am very delighted that Ken is doing 'Bridge of Blood,' and I pray that God will bless it mightily.”

Tickets for both 7 p.m. performances are $5 and will be available at the door and the Xenia Christian Main Office during school hours. For more information, call 937-352-1640.
