State Budget Proposal Helps Small Businesses

DAYTON -- Half of the jobs created in Ohio are because of small business owners and the Governor wants to help them create more jobs.

Governor John Kasich has a new two-year budget proposal that includes tax cuts for small businesses.

Kasich said in a Town Hall meeting on Monday that Ohio is now number four in the country for job creation.

He said it is important to continue to help support small businesses because they create 50% of jobs here in the Buckeye State. Governor Kasich plans to cut taxes by 50% for small businesses making $750,000 or less.

Kasich said that by reducing taxes for small businesses, we will see economic growth and will stay competitive.

Taxes would increase though for professional services such as lawyers and accountants.

In the proposal, state sales tax will also drop from 5.5% to 5%.

Devon Schmidt, owner of Day Yoga Studio near the University of Dayton campus says this is good news for her fairly new business.

"There's a lot of responsibility, a lot of costs and is also very rewarding," said Schmidt.

Schmidt says the cuts would allow her to continue to let her place grow for her customers.
