HUBER HEIGHTS -- The City of Huber heights is looking into an ordinance that would restrict who can knock on your door.

The proposal came about after several complaints from the community.

Bill Woodward is no stranger to the doorbell ringing.

"If you're polite you listen to the spiel otherwise you just shut the door," he said.

And shut the door is what city leaders are trying to do for scammers.

According to the Huber Heights Police Chief Rob Schommer, the city wants those who are selling goods to register, so you can make sure they're legit.

"It gives us the ability to talk with them investigate them and find out what their purpose and legitimacy is," said Chief Schommer.

And for those with signs on their doors saying "No Soliciting," the proposed ordinance would protect you as well.

However, it doesn't stop local kids from going door-to-door selling girl scout cookies, religious groups or political canvassers.

But it still protects you from the hassle.

"A lot of people don't want to be bothered by that kind of thing and others would feel much safer by being able to check like that," said Woodward.

The city is working on a final draft of the ordinance that will be presented Monday afternoon. Once it's approved it goes to city council for a vote.
