FAIRBORN -- A local Congressman has a new job and it could help save jobs at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The threat of job losses is something that has people living and working nearby very concerned.

"When there's hiring freezes, when there's anything in that aspect that has to do with employees at the base the whole community is affected, restaurants, businesses, everything," said Christina Gamble of Fairborn.

Congressman Mike Turner is the new chairman of a subcommittee that governs Wright-Patt and which controls the Air Force budget.

As a result, he has asked for guidance from the Dayton Development Coalition and the general at Wright-Patt, for ways in which they can work together to improve the local economy.

"Building a strong relationship, or relationships really allow you to ensure that all of your issues are being addressed that you provide good, quality information to the people like Congressman Turner who are in positions of strategic decision making," said Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger with WPAFB.

ABC 22/FOX 45 asked Congressman Turner for details of his plan to assist Wright-Patt. He tells us those plans are just in the beginning phases and there are no specifics just yet.
