BUTLER COUNTY -- Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, a longtime proponent for immigration reform, is promoting his ideas concerning the topic.
Jones will head to Washington, D.C., to participate in discussions as a member of the National Sheriff's Association Immigration Committee.
In a press release, Jones said he would like to see any new immigration reform package contain the following eight principles:
⢠Our nation's borders must be 100% secured
⢠There must be severe penalties for employesr and companies who employ illegals
⢠The flow of illegal drugs crossing our borders must be stopped, with enforcement.
⢠Welfare and other Social Services programs should not be provided for anyone who is in "Illegal" status or in the process of becoming legal.
⢠No jobs without proper work visas until gaining legal status.
⢠No voting rights for non-U.S. citizens.
⢠No "jumping to the front of the line." Must let those who are already in the process of becoming legal remain first in line.
⢠Governors of border states must have substantial involvement in establishing any immigration reform policies.
